The Hotel - Channel 4 and More 4 documentary

We are delighted to say that last year the Damson Dene Hotel was selected to feature in a series for Channel 4. ‘The Hotel’ was a major 8-part documentary series shown on C4 at 8pm on Sunday evenings which showed life in a British hotel as it’s never been seen before.

"Nestling in the five-star setting of the Lake District is The Damson Dene, a typical three-star British holiday hotel. In charge: Jonathan, the suave owner; Kirk, the passionate chef; and Wayne, the hands-on and harassed general manager. Underneath them, a staff of 20 waiters, chambermaids and housekeepers – many of whom come from Eastern Europe and are still learning how to speak English. Together they cater for the ‘Great British Public’ who come away for weekend breaks bringing all their baggage with them. ‘The Hotel’ documents life both upstairs and downstairs over the busy summer season as the worlds of the staff and the guests collide. From newlyweds to silver weddings, from family squabbles to make or break holidays, the staff must tend to all their guests’ needs. Magic, and mayhem, soon ensue."

We are very pleased that The Hotel has provoked such a good reaction with our guests, some of whom visit us specifically to meet 'the stars' of the programme.

Went for a visit to the Damson Dene
Greeted kindly by the lovely Jean
We had travelled from afar
Hoping to see a tv star
Wayne who was the hotel boss,
the chef, the cleaners or Amos
The words were buzzing in my head
but I didnt want to shout 'rye bread'
Sat in the bar in the role of a spy
trying not to point as the staff passed by
we spotted on sale as we were alert
a f***king creamy mash T-shirt
We went to the resteraunt, more familiar staff
the show was raw talent and a right good laugh
Sat down to my soup, I thought for a minute
apart from my spoon what else dipped in it?!
The meal was delicious the staff were the best
we retired to our room for a little rest
Our shower was empty much to our relief
we hadnt gone in and found a bathroom theif
Our bed was cosy, we slept all night
and the next day breakfast was a welcome sight
The weather was lovely, we'd been on the lake
we sat by the duckpond and had tea and cake
Our trip was perfect, we loved our stay
So Damson Dene we'll be back one day...
