Meet our team and get the low-down from the locals
We, at South Lakes Hotels, are all lucky enough to live and work in this beautiful part of the country so let us introduce ourselves and tell you about the things that we like best. From favourite walk to favourite snack, from favourite day out to favourite pub, we'll tell you what we like and why.
...and we're not selfish, if you have a favourite thing to do, see, eat or visit in the Lake District, please tell us about it.
The Lake District is the most visited National Park in the United Kingdom which is not surprising because of its sheer beauty and the diversity of activities available to visitors. There are hundreds of options for walkers from gentle lakeside strolls to challenging mountain expeditions. The lakes and mountains combine to form impressive scenery. Farmland and settlement add aesthetic value to the natural scenery with an ecology modified by human influence including important wildlife habitats.
Cyclists in the Lake District are spoiled for choice! There are a variety of country lanes, permitted cycleways and bridleways to suit all experience levels, and you can be sure of fantastic views along the way!
Cumbria and the Lake District are home to some of the most historic houses and gardens in England, all of which are privately owned. Each house has its own unique features, and many have award-winning gardens, hosting live events and festivas throughout the year. Here are a few of the houses in the local area, some which have quaint tearooms or cafes selling delicious homemade food and home baked cakes.
The Lake District Wildlife Park is set just 10 minures from Keswick, and is the only wildlife park in North Cumbria. It is set on 24 acres of parkland and there are over 100 species, from anaconda to zebra. It's a fun day out for all ages!
