This unique gallery is housed in a 17th Century Lakeland town house and contains a fascinating exhibition of the life of Beatrix Potter. It includes many of her original works and story book illustrations. The exhibition features displays on the major new film Miss Potter, starring Renee Zellweger and Ewan McGregor, plus original watercolours used to illustrate The Tale Of Tom Kitten - which is celebrating it's 100th birthday.

The Cumberland Pencil Museum is the only attraction in the world devoted exclusively to the rich and fascinating history of the pencil. From the discovery of Borrowdale graphite in the early 1500's to the formation of the Cumberland Pencil Company in 1832, the museum charts the development of the humble pencil through the centuries.

Kendal Museum is home to one of the largest collections of minerals from the Lake District and Northern England. You can see some of these rare and beautiful rocks and minerals on display in the upstairs gallery. Come face to face with animals from every continent, from aardvark to zebra. The amazing collection in the World Wildlife Gallery contains many creatures which are today extinct, rare or endangered. The celebrated author and fell walker Alfred Wainwright was curator of Kendal Museum for 30 years. There s a dedicated display where you can see a reconstruction of his office, original maps and drawings, his trademark pipe and even his walking socks.

The Dock Museum

A unique building in a stunning coastal setting built within a Victorian dry dock. The museum tells the story of Barrow and its rapid growth from a small farming village in the early nineteenth century, to a town famed throughout the world for its industrial production and innovation. The Dock Museum integrates displays of objects, photographs, models, computers and film shows in a manner to enthuse, inform and entertain. Displays include the new film show, a collection of spectacular ship models, interactive computer kiosks, Shipbuilders to the World and the Social History of Barrow. The landscaped water front site has an adventure playground and walkways and a cafe.
